Training Courses

Your route to a Full Motorcycle Licence

After passing your CBT and Theory Test (not necessarily in that order - its up to you), you need to take the bike test.

Following on from the information you give us regarding your road experience etc.,  we will work out with you the best way forward with your training course and allocate test and training dates to suit you.  This can be an intensive course or in order to cause as little disruption to your usual life we offer evening and weekend training sessions alongside the usual weekday training.  This flexible approach means the only time you need to take off from your work or college would be approx. two half days or one full day for your practical tests.  Call or email for a personal quote without obligation.

Which test you take depends on your age and what you want to ride.  If you are between 19-23 you can not take a Direct Access test (straight on to big bikes) however you can take the A2 test  which means you can ride a motorcycles with or restricted down to a power output of less 35kw output (max 46.6bhp) with an option to take the big bike test when you reach 24 or after 2 years on A2 licence.  Most bikes can be restricted and costs varies (depending on the type).

I you are 17 or over you can take th A1 test (125cc only) with the option to take A2 test at 19.

If you are not into big bikes or just want a small commuter you only need take the light bike test which give you full entitlement up to 125cc.

The Secret of our Success

First and foremost Pete, our chief instructor holds the highest qualification currently available in instructional techniques and roadcraft - THE RoSPA ADVANCED DIPLOMA*.  This was gained for his advanced training ability demonstrated to the highest standard in both the classroom and in-car environment, (we highlight this point because it is now possible to take this qualification on a motorcycle not then available when Pete qualified). These qualifications combined with his extensive training experience not only allow him to train motorcycle test candidates to the highest standards but also allows him to pass on his wealth of abilities to the motorcycle instructors who train and work alongside him. (For a full list of Pete''s qualifications see his profile on our instructors page).

Secondly, Ideal do not operate a "one size fits all" policy. Training is individually tailored to build on your ability and experience.  This flexible approach allows us to design a training programme that fits you perfectly whist keeping the cost to you to a minimum - hence our impressive results.

* RoSPA Advance Diploma is recognised by the Driving Standards Agency as equivalent to the Fleet Trainer qualification. This qualification is available to DSA instructors seeking continued professional development (CPD is actively encouraged by the DSA). Training is offered to all instructors of PCV LGV MOTORCYCLE and CAR to attain this high level of competence (for details please refer to our instructor training page).

And last but not least, our team of dedicated professional instructors, most of whom are already qualified over and above the basic motorcycle instructors qualifications (see instructor profiles for details) work hard to make our training courses successful and enjoyable and continue to increase their own qualifications in order to offer the very best training experience possible.
