Before you can legally ride a motorcycle or moped on the highway you must** take a CBT course and in order to be eligible to do that you must first obtain a British Provisional Licence with category P for moped riders or A for motorcycles. Order an application form or apply on-line
(Older licences may have different category letters, if you are unsure contact us for clarification).
The CBT courses are designed to be an introduction to moped/motorcycles. The course covers everything you need to know to begin riding safely on the roads of today including information on types of clothing and helmets, legal requirements, road procedure, weather conditions, bike handling etc., using the very latest teaching methods we aim to give you a good grounding in motorcycling, further training is advised and essential if you intend to go on to gain a full bike licence. The course is normally a full days training, however it could take longer in certain circumstances. On satisfactory completion a CBT the certificate DL196 will be issued and is *valid for two years from issue date.
The DL196 entitles a 16 year old to ride a moped (50cc and under) either with gears or an automatic (ie rev and go, twist & go scooter), on the road as a learner with L-plates. You MUST not carry a passenger or use motorways. A CBT certificate obtained on a moped is also valid for motorcycles upto 125cc once the rider has reached 17 under the same conditions as above.
The classroom element of our CBT course take place in our modern centrally heated classroom with changing room and toilets, the facilities also include a centrally heated coffee lounge providing unrivalled facilities which include TV/Video, snack vending and FREE filtered chilled water.
The off-road element is conducted close by (minibus transport provided) at the Adelaide Primary School, Walker Street, which comprise one single large unobstructed playground which is perfect for our purpose. Toilet facilities are also available on site.
These facilities are the envy of our competitors and are provided for your safety and comfort helping to make your experience enjoyable and rewarding.
The bikes used for CBT courses are 50cc Yamaha Jog R and Peugeot moped scooters (twist & go) and for gears Yamaha YBR & Suzuki GN125 or you can use your own vehicle (providing it is roadworthy and insured). On occasion the CBT can be done on 500cc bike if you are eligible.
All on road training is conducted with the latest state of the art NEV Radio Communications System allowing for clear instructions and directions.

*If you passed a car test before to to 1st February 2001 you are automatically entitled to ride a moped without L-plates and without taking a CBT (although it is recommended that you do and often may experience difficulty obtaining insurance without a CBT).
**If you passed a car test on or after that date you will receive full moped entitlement but will need to complete a CBT before riding on the road. The CBT issued to you is then valid for the duration of your car driving licence whilst riding a MOPED ONLY.
A CBT obtained at 16 on a moped is also valid for motorcycles once you reach the age of 17 without further training, however we offer a short introduction to gears course if you require assistance.
